This is the sound of all of us
Singing with love and the will to trust
Leave the rest behind it will turn to dust
This is the sound of all of us

One Voice - The Wailin Jennys

This is the sound of one voice
One spirit, one voice
The sound of one who makes a choice
This is the sound of one voice

This is the sound of voices two
The sound of me singing with you
Helping each other to make it through
This is the sound of voices two

This is the sound of voices three
Singing together in harmony
Surrendering to the mystery
This is the sound of voices three

This is the sound of all of us
Singing with love and the will to trust
Leave the rest behind it will turn to dust
This is the sound of all of us

This is the sound of one voice
One people, one voice
A song for every one of us
This is the sound of one voice
This is the sound of one voice

Solstice

WINTER SOLSTICE
Perhaps
for a moment
the typewriters will stop clicking,
the wheels stop rolling
the computers desist from computing,
and a hush will fall over the city.
For an instant, in the stillness,
the chiming of the celestial spheres will be heard
as earth hangs poised
in the crystalline darkness, and then
gracefully
tilts.
Let there be a season
when holiness is heard, and
the splendor of living is revealed.
Stunned to stillness by beauty
we remember who we are and why we are here.
There are inexplicable mysteries.
We are not alone.
In the universe there moves a Wild One
whose gestures alter earth's axis
toward love.
In the immense darkness
everything spins with joy.
The cosmos enfolds us.
We are caught in a web of stars,
cradled in a swaying embrace,
rocked by the holy night,
babes of the universe.
Let this be the time
we wake to life,
like spring wakes, in the moment
of winter solstice.

A few days late here of course, but this explains where I (we) have been for a while. Happy Holidays!

The walls the walls are coming down, the here and now is coming round
It will some day let you down
The ships the ships are coming in, the great ideas are wearing thin
There is nothing left to do

The Walls Are Coming Down - Fanfarlo

They swallowed it whole, they went for the gold for the gold
We fall for the same lies, we all have the same shoes to fit
The preachers and books of your empire will fight here alone
Some day they will be forgotten and die one by one

The walls the walls are coming down, the here and now is coming round
It will some day let you down
The ships the ships are coming in, the great ideas are wearing thin
There is nothing left to do

For atoms have gone as far as atoms will go
Your books write themselves, they line up in row after row

The walls the walls are coming down, the here and now is coming round
It will some day let you down
The ships the ships are coming in, the great ideas are wearing thin
There is nothing left to do

Go ahead, push your luck
Find out how much love the world can hold
Once upon a time I had control
And reined my soul in tight

After All - Dar Williams
Go ahead, push your luck
Find out how much love the world can hold
Once upon a time I had control
And reined my soul in tight
Well the whole truth
It's like the story of a wave unfurled
But I held the evil of the world
So I stopped the tide
Froze it up from inside
And it felt like a winter machine
That you go through and then
You catch your breath and winter starts again
And everyone else is spring bound

And when I chose to live
There was no joy
It's just a line I crossed
I wasn't worth the pain my death would cost
So I was not lost or found

And if I was to sleep
I knew my family had more truth to tell
So I traveled down a whispering well
To know myself through them

Growing up, my mom had a room full of books
and hid away in there
The father raging down a spiral stair
'Til he found someone
Most days his son
And sometimes I think
My father, too, was a refugee
I know they tried to keep their pain from me
They could not see what it was for

But now I'm sleeping fine
Sometimes the truth is like a second chance
I am the daughter of a great romance
And they are the children of the war

Well the sun rose
So many colors, it nearly broke my heart
It worked me over like a work of art
And I was part of all that

So go ahead, push your luck
Say what it is you gotta say to me
We will push on into that mystery
And it'll push right back
And there are worse things than that
Cause for every price
And every penance that I could think of
It's better to have fallen in love
Than never to have fallen at all

'Cause when you live in a world
Well it gets into who you thought you'd be
And now I laugh at how the world changed me
I think life chose me after all

Time Flies

A year ago, she was a little lump who smiled. Now look at her, signing away, waving and reporting her offenses to library books with the always telling, "Uh oh!" Time sure does go by much faster than I realize.

Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet and you exploded into my heart

Romeo & Juliet - Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) -
Covered by Amy Ray of Indigo Girls

A love-struck Romeo sings the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low with a love song that he made.
Finds a streetlight, steps out of the shade
Says something like, "You and me babe, how about it?"

Juliet says, "Hey, it's Romeo, you nearly gave me a heart attack!"
He's underneath the window, she's singing, "Hey la, my boyfriend's back.
You shouldn't come around here singing up to people like that...
Anyway, what you gonna do about it?"

Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet and you exploded into my heart
And I forget I forget the movie song.
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?

Come up on different streets, they're both the streets of shame.
Both dirty, both mean, yes, in the dream it was just the same
And I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real.
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?

When you can fall for chains of silver,
You can fall for chains of gold,
You can fall for pretty strangers
And the promises they hold.
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin, yeah!
Now you just say, "Oh Romeo? Yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him".

Juliet, when we made love, you used to cry.
You said, "I love you like the stars above, I'll love you 'til I die".
There's a place for us, you know the movie song.
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?

I can't do the talk, like the talk on TV
And I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be.
I can't do everything, but I'll do anything for you.
I can't do anything, 'cept be in love with you!
And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be.
All I do is keep the beat... and bad company.
Now all I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme,
Juliet, I'd do the stars with you any time!

Juliet, when we made love you used to cry.
You said, "I love you like the stars above, I'll love you 'til I die".
There's a place for us, you know the movie song.
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?

And a love-struck Romeo sings a street a serenade
Laying everybody low with a lovesong that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight, steps out of the shade
He says something like, "You and me babe, how about it?"

Great DJ - The Ting Tings

Fed up with your indigestion.
Swallow words one by one.
Your folks got high a quarter to five.
Don’t you feel your growing up undone.

Nothing but the local DJ.
He said he had some songs to play.
What went down from this fooling around.
Gave hope and a brand new day.

Imagine all the girls,
Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the boys,
Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the strings,
Eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee.
And the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums.

Oh
Nothing was the same again.
All about where and when.
Blowing our minds in our lives unkind.
Gotta love the bpl.
When the smoke was all baton
Remember how this all begun.
We wore his love like a hand in a glove.
Where the future plays it all night long.

Imagine all the girls,
Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the boys,
Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the strings,
Eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee, eee.
And the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums, the drums

Making all the girls.
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the boys,
Ah ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
And the strings,

Halloween Follow Up

I knew I'd get around to sharing these pics eventually. Wish it wasn't more than a week after the event, but hey, better late than never right?

Syda as Yoda and Mama as Luke Skywalker.

Nate is Han Solo! He made sure to introduce himself to everyone too, "Trick or Treat! I'm Han Solo! thank you! Happy Halloween!"

Ben as a Jawa! This robe was actually Dada's Jedi Robe for his Halloween costume four years ago. Sadly, we didn't get a pic of Dad as a Sith. He looked very pale, and clearly ravaged by the Dark Side. Very cool and creepy!

Cool For Cats - Squeeze
The Indians send signals
From the rocks above the pass
The cowboys take positions
In the bushes and the grass
The squaw is with the Corporal
She is tied against the tree
She doesn't mind the language
It's the beating she don't need

She lets loose all the horses
When the Corporal is asleep
And he wakes to find the fire's dead
And arrows in his hats
And Davy Crockett rides around
And says it's cool for cats

The Sweeney's doing ninety
'Cos they've got the word to go
They get a gang of villains
In a shed up at Heathrow
They're counting out the fivers
When the handcuffs lock again
In and out of Wandsworth
With the numbers on their names
It's funny how their missus'
Always look the bleeding same

And meanwhile at the station
There's a couple of likely lads
Who swear like how's your father
And they're very cool for cats
They're cool for cats

To change the mood a little
I've been posing down the pub
On seeing my reflection
I'm looking slightly rough
I fancy this, I fancy that
I wanna be so flash
I give a little muscle
And I spend a little cash

But all I get is bitter and a nasty little rash
And by the time I'm sober
I've forgotten what I've had
And ev'rybody tells me that it's cool to be a cat
Cool for cats

Shake up at the disco
And I think I've got a pull
I ask her lots of questions
And she hangs on to the wall
I kiss her for the first time
And then I take her home
I'm invited in for coffee
And I give the dog a bone

She likes to go to discos
But she's never on her own
I said I'll see you later
And I give her some old chat
But it's not like that on the TV
When it's cool for cats
It's cool for cats

In Preparation

Our favorite holiday is almost here! Nate had a dress rehearsal of his costume this weekend. Though he decided against the beard in the end. He's loving the holster and gun though and is wearing them throughout the day. As you can see, Sheriff Nate's day starts early.

***UPDATE***
I apparently jinxed myself with this post. Not an hour after posting this Nate declared that he wants to be Han Solo for Halloween instead of a cowboy. At least we can work with that, AND it does mean that we can trick or treat as a family with a cohesive theme this year! Something I've been hoping for for a while. :) Now, obviously the theme is Star Wars but the big reveal of who is who or what won't happen until Saturday.

Now, back to the sewing machine!!!

Tuesday Tunes

Louie Louie Louie, Louie
Louie Louie Lou-I
Louie Louie Louie
Louie Louie you're gonna cry

Sometimes, Tuesday Tunes illustrate an emotion, or a theme that fits our week or mood around here. Today, it serves to prove a point to my husband, that this was an actual song before it was a theme song. Once again, my bizarre knowledge of songs written long before my time, comes in handy. I really need to find a quiz show to show off my full potential, and win some cash.

Brother Louie - Stories
She was black as the night
Louie was whiter than white
Danger, danger when you taste brown sugar
Louie fell in love overnight

Nothing bad, it was good
Louie had the best girl he could
When he took her home
To meet his mama and papa
Louie knew just where he stood

Louie Louie Louie, Louie
Louie Louie Lou-I
Louie Louie Louie
Louie Louie you're gonna cry

There he stood in the night
Knowing what's wrong from what's right
He took her home to meet his mama and papa
Man, he had a terrible fright

Louie nearly caused a scene
Wishin' it was a dream
Ain't no diff'rence if you're black or white
Brothers, you know what I mean

Louie Louie Louie, Louie
Louie Louie Lou-I
Louie Louie Louie
Louie Louie you're gonna cry

Louie Louie Louie, Louie
Louie Louie Lou-I
Louie Louie Louie
Louie Louie you're gonna cry

Louie Louie Louie, Louie

Casting On, Binding Off

I've managed to get quite a few projects completed in the last two months. The key to this sudden rise in productivity? Deadlines. The things I've finished were all time sensitive and I'll tell you, it seems to make a difference. It's funny to me how knitting, my leisurely, relaxing hobby can still be just as calming even under pressure. It really is versatile.

Two of my favorite projects were these hats for a friend of mine who is fighting Leukemia. It was hard to put these down while working on them, the patterns were fun and different and knowing they were going to add some cheer and comfort to a friend's day, well, what better motivation? The surprise personal benefit of working on these hats is that they forced me to learn how to use Double Pointed Needles or DPNs. I've always been terrified of them and thought they were for very advanced knitters and something I'd get around to when the kids are in college. Well, Ha DPNs! Ha I say! I managed these very well, with the kids in the house, including frequent nursing breaks for the toddler and mediation sessions with the 7 and 4 year old.

I see some cozy winter hats on my needles for this Yule! (Indeed, there is one already started now)

Tuesday Tunes

I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

Just Like Heaven - The Cure

"Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you"

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

BCM Or Bust!

We ventured to the Boston Children's Museum on Friday and had a fabulous time! I'll admit, I was really nervous about driving into Boston, on my own, with the kids. I'm not familiar with city driving at all.(shocking, I know, see how you learn little known facts thanks to a blog?) So I was worried about missing the turn for the parking garage, or an exit or any of the other mishaps that could easily happen to us on unknown, busy roads. We made it just fine though, and made it well worth our while. We spent a good 5 hours there, and still didn't make it to every exhibit. WELL worth the minor stress I had heading out, and made our Reciprocal Membership with the Children's Museum of NH a smart purchase for the third year in a row!

The Bubble Room was very popular!

Tied for first place with the Bubble Room is the Dance Floor. Check out Ben's excellent Dodgeball skills!

Saucy

We found apples! Hurrah, hurrah! I forgot to bring my camera along when we went picking though, so sadly there are no apple picking pics this year. It's sad to say 'this year' too because I like to go at least twice but there just aren't enough apples to be found this fall. Hopefully next year will be a better year for the trees. The apples we did find were lovely and delicious!

We used a few for an apple pie, because really, how do you NOT have apple pie in October? The rest, a whole 1/2 bushel of drops, was cooked down into applesauce and canned. This was my first attempt at canning anything ever. I was a little intimidated by it at first, even though I saw my mom can all sorts of jams and chutney as a kid, it's different when you're doing it yourself.

The applesauce seemed to turn out just fine though! The half bushel only made up 3 quarts of sauce, so next year I'll know to get at least a full bushel if not two. I canned the 3 quarts and put them up, but I couldn't wait long to open one. We each had some with dinner last night and I am very confident that it was a hit. I would have taken pictures of the boys enjoying theirs as well, but they devoured it so quickly there was no time to get proof.

When I catch the moon
I throw it to you
And you'd be happy too
I do that for you

Can You Catch The Moon? - Elizabeth Mitchell & Lisa Loeb

Can you catch the moon
And hold it in your hands
Cause I can catch the moon
And I do my moondance

I press my hands together
And slowly spin around
Tell my moonbird sister
To pick me up
And we'll go flying

Can you see what shines
When it's dark outside
Cause I can see the moonshine
When I look in your eyes

When I catch the moon
I throw it to you
And you'd be happy too
I do that for you

We can dance together
And slowly spin around
Cause you're my moonbird sister
I can see you, you're laughing

You can catch me
You'll be happy
I can see you
You're laughing

You can catch me
You'll be happy
I can see you
I'm so happy

You can catch me
I'm so happy
I can see you

Picking Time

We managed to hold the kids off until the first weekend of October. I think that's a pretty respectable start, especially considering that Ben has been wanting to pick a pumpkin since mid-September. He's been pushing to take out the Halloween decorations too - so it might be time to start digging out the boxes in the garage. Anyway, our first Halloween activity this year was a success.

We visited a local farm and had a decent crop of Pumpkins to choose from. They did not have any apples though, not many of the farms in the area do this year. I love apple picking each fall, I look forward to it every year. This year however, thanks to an early warm up in the spring and then a sudden frost in May, a huge percentage of the crops at all of our local farms did not make it through the growing season. In fact, at this farm that we visited on Saturday, they had to have their apples brought in from another farm so they had some to sell in the gift shop area.
We won't give up though, there is a farm about 40 minutes away with a great crop this year and tons of PYO. Now to get ourselves in the car and head over there when it's not raining!

The boys each picked out their own pumpkin, and Nate generously picked out a smallish one for Sydney. She thought the stem was very tasty. We'll hold off carving them for a few more weeks, and in that time focus on putting up decorations, narrowing down costumes for trick or treating and even pick some apples. I'm sure we'll probably end up with a few more pumpkins along the way too. Our favorite holiday is coming up!!!

Grow up now
My darlin
Please don't you grow up too fast

Go back to sleep now
My darlin
And I'll keep all the bad dreams away
Breathe now, think sweet things
And I'll think of all the right words to say

We were a family, my darlin

Homemade Day

It's officially Fall here. I know that for a couple reasons.

1) We've just had a stomach bug go through the whole family (with the exception of Syda, thank you Breastfeeding!) and 2) It's rainy, cool and dreary here and will be for the next three days or so. I take these as classic signs that the fall has begun and it's time to take refuge inside more often.

To entertain myself and the kids today, I pulled out the homemade stops. I started the day making Play Doh at 8am. That only took about 10 minutes to make and has given Nate close to two hours of enjoyment. We then went on to making Chocolate Chip cookies. Not the easiest thing with preschool and toddler assistants, but fun and yummy in the end!

We'll finish the day up with some homemade pizza for dinner. This crust is our new go-to recipe. The whole family loves it! It's really tasty and super easy, even though bread machine dough is easy to begin with, this one is just perfect! Now, the rush to finish up some homemade birthday gifts for the young lady of the house - that'll start long after dinnertime though.

I'm going to knit myself a sweater.
A sweater that will keep me warm at night.
Just how many days here must I weather?
Just biding my time...

The Knitting Song - Sophie Madeleine

I'm going to knit myself a sweater.
A sweater that will keep me warm at night.
Just how many days here must I weather?
Just biding my time...
'cause when I call you on the phone,
I'm still lost, I'm still alone.
Who's going to make it right? (Oooh wah ooh)
Who's going to make it right? (Oooh wah ooh)

I'm going to write myself a letter.
A letter that will make me feel alright.
I'll read it to myself five times or seven.
But I can't deny
I'm going to need a little more than just some thought that I adore to keep me warm at night. (Oooh wah ooh)
To keep me warm at night. (Oooh wah ooh)

Nine days don't amount to much when you cross them off a wall.
And I thought I was out of luck 'til you came along and made me fall.
Now there's nothing more to say, since you left and gone away.
And I just don't think I'll get through the night.

Because I need a little more than just some thought
that I adore to keep me warm at night. (Oooh wah ooh)
Oh keep me warm at night. (Oooh wah ooh)

Because I need a little more than just some thought that I adore to keep me warm at night. (Oooh wah ooh)
Oh keep me warm at night. (Oooh wah ooh)

Partying

Well, we're in the thick of it now folks! It's the middle of September, which means two birthdays down, one to go. But who's counting? Well, our little boy was up until a few days ago. Actually, he's still counting, the question has just changed from, "When will I be four?" to, "How many days have I been four?"

First up was Dada's birthday which featured Monster Cupcakes. We honor all cake requests on birthdays and Tim decided he wanted monster related cupcakes (NOT cake) for his celebration. He and the boys did a fine job creating some funny, creepy and weird looking dudes. I think it's safe to say they had more fun decorating than eating them because each monster was stripped of his/her decorative marshmallows, twizzlers and candies before being consumed. My guys are purists I guess, frosting and cake only.

Nate's cake was furnished by the Dada bakery. He did all of the frosting and decorating. I had fully expected Nate to go for the Perry The Platypus cake that I was planning to make him, but the week of his birthday he changed his mind and insisted on Batman. I'm really not sure where the sudden interest in Batman is coming from. He doesn't watch Batman cartoons (or ask to) but this year, a Batman cake was a must. I'm still hoping for a Perry cake sometime, maybe I can talk Ben into it.

Nate's Brobee Hat
I had also expected he might ask for a Yo Gabba Gabba caek, but no. At least he didn't ask for a Batman hat, I'm not sure what that pattern looks like, but I'm sure it involves charting and I am not up for that yet.

The best present of the day (tied for first with his Buzz Lightyear) was this scooter that Tim & I found. The week before Tim & I went shopping for Nate's presents he asked for a scooter for his birthday. Specifically, he wanted a scooter with three wheels and Spiderman on it (again, not sure where Spiderman comes from, assuming he snuck in with Batman). We didn't promise anything, and honestly, we weren't even going to look for one because we had just bought bikes for both boys in May. Also, we live in Maine, so there's not a long season of bike and scooter riding and we're nearing the end of it. We set off on our shopping adventures, and we went to Goodwill looking for Halloween costumes to fill up a Dress UP Box for Nate. No luck in that department but what did we find in the Toy section? A Razor scooter with three wheels for $2.99! Yeah, we're cheap like that and proud of it. Because really, does Nate know or care that it was three dollars? Does it lessen the joy that he'll get out of it? Did it leave more money in our wallet so we were able to get him some other rocking presents? This was the score of the birthday season in my book. He loves that scooter, loves it! I mean just look at the proof below.

Tuesday Tunes - Happy Birthday Little Wombat

If they were me, if they were me
and I was you, I was you

If they were me and I was you

Would you have liked a present too.

This week's dedication goes out to Nate on his last day of Threedom. As of tomorrow, he will bravely venture into the land of Four. Coming soon, a separate blog entry devoted to my mixture of emotions about this. Mark your calendars! In the meanwhile, enjoy the tunes!

PS
For the longest time (read: up until about 20 minutes ago) I thought the first line of this song was, "Happy Birthday Little Wombat" and I thought that was the cutest thing, a sweet little nickname for a kiddo from his mum; maybe all Australian mothers call their baby 'wombat". I found it endearing and starting singing it all the time. It's catchy and the wombat thing had me hooked. Then I went to get the lyrics to put on the blog, cause I like to do that for you, and lo and behold - this song isn't about Wombats or Australia at all! Won't stop me from singing it the way I always have though. Wombat just sounds better!

Happy Birthday - Tings Tings
Happy
happy birthday in a hot bath
To those nice
nice nights.
I remember always
always I got such a fright.
If they were me, if they were me and I was you, i was you
If they were me and I was you
Would you have liked a present too.

Into The Woods

When I started this blog I had promised myself that i would be prompt and post about things as they happened, or as close to when they happened as possible. That's a great goal for a blog, if you don't have three kids. So, now I'm writing about our first experience camping two weeks after it happened. Doesn't make it any less fun for me to write, or for you to read I hope!

This was my second time camping in my life. The first being with Tim over eight years ago at a campground on a busy holiday weekend with a few friends. This was the first attempt ever with children. We're part of an incredible homeschooling community and one of the moms in our group noticed that the forecast looked ideal for camping - warm, sunny days and clear, but not too cool nights. Perfect for letting the kids run wild on the beach and then chilling out by the campfire after dinner and snoozing away on their air mattresses in the wild. (of our tent) I gathered up some gusto, our camping gear and headed out. We've had a huge tent for about six years now and have only used it once, and that was in our living room. I decided we could handle it, I could handle it - after all, I'd be with at least five other moms and their kids who we all knew well, and don't I take care of all three kids most days by myself anyway? Yes! Camping, yes we can!!!

Turns out, I wasn't so wrong either. I managed to get us all to the State Park safely, find the site that friends were kind enough to share with us, and set up our tent, chairs, air mattresses and other camping needs all by myself. I felt quite proud! We spent the day at the beach as planned and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had the yummiest dinner back at our site, it's true everything does taste better when you're camping, and we enjoyed a beautiful campfire (our first!) and then crashed in our tent for the night.

Well, some of us crashed. Some of us crashed and then woke up at 4am inconsolable and irate due to teething and would NOT be soothed by nursing, walking or rocking until 7am. 7am also happens to be when the boys' internal alarms go off. SO, this is where I called it quits. I know, it's really a bit of an exaggeration to say we went camping when we only stayed one night, but I'm still counting it. As I said, I got all of our stuff there, we played on the beach, we saw fire, Ben played capture the flag by the fuzzy hue of glow sticks and we slept outside! IT COUNTS! We also stayed for most of that next day and enjoyed the beach and our friends again. In the end, we went camping. We left our home and played outdoors, survived and even had a good time. It all left me feeling very accomplished and encouraged for next year, when we'll go again and stay for more than a night. So long as Syda's two year molars aren't coming in that week!

Packing up!

Nate admiring a tree early in the morning - note the pjs and fuzzy slippers.

Post-camping nap lasted 4 hours

Ben went with us, but there are no pictures of him because he was off with his friends 99% of the time. It's a good thing he needed to come back to the site to eat or we may not have seen him at all.

Tuesday Tunes

So easily forgotten, are the most important things
Is that I love you, I do
And I want to spend my days and nights
Walking through this crazy world with you

Cuz life is beautiful
Life is wonderous
Every star above is shining just for us

Another dedication this week! (be prepared, there will be a few of them in the coming weeks with the impending birthdays around here).

Today's song goes out to my incredible husband on his birthday. I'm ever so thankful that he was born on this day. He's somewhat shy, but for those of us who are lucky to really know him, we know how kind, thoughtful, patient and funny he is. He's one of the few people who's able to make me laugh so hard that I snort, and that's saying something. I'm forever grateful that my children get to call him Dada and that I get to spend my days with him. I am blessed.

I could get more sentimental here but for now I'm going to just let the song do the talking. Keb Mo, your words are beautiful, as always. For the record, it was VERY hard to pick just one song. Hopefully there will be many, many more birthdays to dedicate a tune to, I've got the playlist all picked out! :)

Life Is Beautiful - Keb Mo
Let's go drifting, through the trees
Let's go sailing, on the sea
Let's go dancing, on the juke joint floor
And leave our troubles all behind, and have a party

So easily forgotten, are the most important things
Like the melody and the moonlight in your eyes
And the song that lasts forever, keeps on gettin betta
All the time

Cuz life is beautiful
Life is wonderous
Every star above is shining just for us
Life is beautiful, on a stormy night
Somewhere in the world the sun is shining bright

I get crazy, so afraid
That I might lose you, one fine day
And I'll be nothing but a tired old man
And I don't wanna be without you, at the party

So easily forgotten, are the most important things
Is that I love you, I do
And I want to spend my days and nights
Walking through this crazy world with you

Cuz life is beautiful
Life is wonderous
Every star above is shining just for us
Life is beautiful, on a stormy night
Somewhere in the world the sun is shining bright

So easily forgotten, are the most important things
Is that I love you, I do
And I want to spend my days and nights
Walking through this crazy world with you, that's right baby

Cuz life is beautiful
Life is wonderous
Every star above is shining just for us
Life is beautiful, on a stormy night
Somewhere in the world the sun is shining bright

Tuesday Tunes

You're so beautiful.
You could be a waitress.
You're so beautiful.
You could be a air hostess in the 60s.
You're so beautiful.
You could be a part-time model.

(Please read the following in your Cassey Kasem voice)

This week's tune goes out to Colleen. For a lot of reasons, more than I have time to list here, but especially because she's been really under the weather this week and she's the other half of my amazing comedy show and I can't work without her. So Colleen, watch the male version of our "popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo", laugh and get better you beautiful girl!

Looking at the room, I can tell that you.
Are the most beautiful girl in the...room.
(In the whole wide room).
And when you're on the street, depending on the street.
I bet you are definitely in the top three.
Good lookin' girls on the street.
(Depending on the streets).
And when I saw you at my mate's place.
I thought...what, is she, doing...at my mate's place.
How did he get a hottie like that to a party like this?
Good one, Dave.
(Ooh, you're a legend, Dave).

I asked Dave if he's going to move on you.
He's not sure.
I said "Dave, do you mind if I do?"
He says he doesn't mind.
But I can tell he kind of minds.
But I'm going to do it anyway.

I see you standing all alone by the stereo.
I dim the lights down to very low, here we go
You're so beautiful.
You could be a waitress.
You're so beautiful.
You could be a air hostess in the 60s.
You're so beautiful.
You could be a part-time model.
But then I seal the deal, I do my moves.
I do my dance moves.

Lets travel through, just me and you.
As other dudes around you on the dance floor.
I draw you near, lets get out of here.
Lets get in a cab. I'll buy you a kabob.
I can't believe. I'm sharing a kabob.
With the most beautiful girl I have ever seen with a kabob.
Oh, why don't we leave?
Lets go to my house.
We can feel each other up on the couch.
Oh no, I don't mind taking it slow.

Cause you're so beautiful...
Like a tree. Or a high class prostitute.
You're so beautiful.
You could be a part time model.
But you'd probably still have to keep your normal job.
A part time model.
Spend part of your time modeling.
And part of your time next to me.

My place is usually a bit tidier than this.

Good Things

All sorts of good crafty things are in the making right now. Most are birthday presents since three of the five members of our family have birthdays in September. I'm not really a fan of crafting under a deadline, but for these fine folks I do so happily! I can't reveal anything via the blog just yet, but here's a glimpse.

Elephants!!!! From JAPAN!!!! Please visit Lisa at This and That From Japan for your own. She's so nice to order from and her shop is full of so much cute stuff. You'll be inspired instantly! This is thanks to the gift card that I won courtesy of SouleMama's blog a few weeks ago.

My fabric from Japan! I might just be a total nerd here, but I think it's really cool to see mail from another country in my mailbox.

Yarn! Really, how can there be a post entitled Good Things that doesn't involve yarn?

Cascade 220 - soon to be longies.

This is clearance yarn too!!! Our LYS has a sale about twice a year when they change out inventory and you can get discontinued skeins for 50% off. You have to buy all of the dye lot that they have, but in my case that was 3 skeins of the shetland on the left and two skeins of the Cuzco on the right. Heavenly!

Adventuring

Adventure, it's so much fun! Adventure, I want to go on one!

Just a little glimpse of our Thursday afternoon/evening. The boys were bored, but not ready to go to the library or the playground when I suggested it. Instead, we wandered in the tiny patch of woods right next to us. There's not a ton to explore, but it was still nice to be out in the sun after three days of rain!
